Learn forest logging and heavy equipment operations in the out-of-doors at our Miner Institute location. Experience the maple season by producing maple syrup or work in the greenhouse where students will seed and grow bedding plant crops. Participate in wildlife management or fruit orchard operation.

A partial list of career options include: forester, environmental engineer, greenhouse operator, landscape designer, heavy equipment operator, surveyor’s aide, arborist, heavy construction laborer, orchard technician and maple syrup producer.

Students participate in hands-on assignments, gaining experience in a wide variety of skills including: chainsaw operation, precision tree felling, heavy equipment operation (skidders, bulldozers, and backhoes), maple syrup production (evaporators, vacuum tubing systems), wood shop (building Adirondack chairs and tables) and operating a greenhouse (material ordering, seed propagation, plant germination, transplanting, maintenance and sales).

After graduation, many students in CV-TEC’s Environmental Conservation and Forestry Program continue their education, attending colleges such as Paul Smiths for forest technology, arboriculture, or wildlife management; SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry; SUNY Morrisville’s horticulture program, NCCC’s wilderness recreation program or Clinton Community College for forestry.

This program is a NYSED CTE Approved Program.

Students enrolled in this program are eligible to earn integrated academic credit toward graduation and the CTE Endorsement (Advanced Designation in Career and Technical Education) on their High School Diploma.
